Samoa's Dodson misses sprint semis

Samoa's Jeremy Dodson has missed out on a berth in the 200m semi finals at the Rio Olympics.

The 28 year old finished fifth in the opening heat in 20.51 seconds, a race won by Panama's Alonso Edward in 20.19.

That mark was well short of his personal best time of 20.07 seconds from 2011 and the 20.2 mark he was hoping to hit to assure himself of a place in the final 24.

Cook Islands rate Rio a success

Cook Islands believe their Olympic campaign in Rio has been a success despite missing on most of their targets.

Weightlifter Luisa Peters was the country's final athlete to compete on Monday, in the women's over 75kg division.

The 23 year old, who was attending her second Olympic Games, had been hoping to break the national record of of 227kg set earlier this year but fell 3kg shy of her previous mark.


Fiji win seen as gold for tourism

Patricia Mallam who was monitoring social media during the Fiji game said the word 'Fiji' topped Google searches within half an hour of the win.

She said a lot of people would have been driven to the official Tourism Fiji website and traffic can be converted into marketing campaigns capitalising on the win.

Ms Mallam said the way the Fijian sevens team received and celebrated their gold medal was also great for the country.

First Person - Singing, celebrating Fijians united in pride after their sevens team won the country's first ever gold medal had Juliette Siverten choked with emotion.

"Is the airport open today?" a traveller asked outside Nadi Airport.

Of course the airport was open - but whether anyone was working was another matter.


Fiji beat NZ to reach Olympic 7s semis

Fiji have beaten New Zealand 12-7 to advance to the semi finals of the Olympic men's sevens tournament, ending the All Blacks Sevens hopes of a medal.

The World Series champions opened the scoring with a try to skipper Osea Kolinisau in the second minute of the match in wet conditions at the Deodoro Stadium.
